On Season 1, Episode 2, The New Perception of Community, of Oprah Winfrey’s SuperSoul sessions, she interviewed Gary Zukav, a spiritual teacher and bestselling author. She described the powerful impact his book, The Seat of the Soul, has had on her life’s path.

During the interview, Zukav spoke about the underlying reasons for our actions. He said, “[Intention] is a motivation. It’s the reason for doing what you’re doing. [Intention] is an energy that infuses the deed or the word.” He added, “If you go down, drill down deep into your intention, you’ll get to a bedrock bottom place where there’s only two intentions: love and fear… The intention that really produces results is the intention of love.”

What intention do you have behind what you do? What type of energy do you put out?

Do you typically use words and actions from the love camp: excitement, abundance, thoughtfulness, gratitude, compassion, like, forgive, appreciation, acceptance, care, etc. Or are your words more in the fear camp: scared, dread, blame, judge, jealous, doubt, criticize, dislike, hate, exclude, put-down, etc.

As discussed in the interview, what goes up must come down and what goes out must come in. In other words, you reap what you sow. We direct the story of our life.

I’d encourage you to pick one area of your life and in a quiet space, ask yourself why you are doing what you are doing. Is there more love behind what you are doing or is there more fear? Is it scary even trying this exercise? If so, what is that telling you?

Instead of trying to change your outer world, start by first changing your inner world. Fear constricts and love expands. Allow your love to diminish any fear.
